The Sharing Cake

Lily and Jake were excited. It was their grandmother’s birthday, and their mom had baked a delicious chocolate cake. The smell filled the kitchen, making their mouths water.

“Since you both helped, you get the first slice,” Mom said, placing a large piece on a plate.

Lily and Jake looked at the cake, then at each other.

“I should have the bigger half,” Jake said. “I mixed the batter.”

“But I helped decorate!” Lily argued.

They both frowned, each wanting more.

Then, Grandma chuckled. “Let me tell you a secret,” she said. “The joy of cake isn’t just in eating—it’s in sharing.”

Lily and Jake hesitated. Could that be true? They decided to split the slice evenly and eat together.

To their surprise, laughter and smiles filled the room as they enjoyed the cake side by side.

“You’re right, Grandma,” Jake said. “Sharing makes it taste even better!”

Lily nodded. “And it makes us happier, too.”

Grandma winked. “That’s the sweetest lesson of all.”
